End of 2009

Wow!  2009 is almost over.  I can't believe it!

This has been an eventful year for Alvie.  I found a new home, met some new friends (Boo Bear and Snoopy), got a new website (www.alvietheburro.com) and had a fun Christmas.

I wonder what will happen in 2010?  Maybe I need to  make a new year's resolution......I resolve to eat more oats in 2010.  That's one I know I can keep!

What about you?  Do you have a new year's resolution?

Listening to Christmas Carols

I have been listening to Christmas music on the radio.  I love it!

My favorite song is "I Want a Hippopotamus For Christmas".  (Did I spell that word right?)  I just love songs and stories about animals, don't you?

Be sure to read my Christmas story at http://www.alvietheburro.com/ .

Here is a cute photo of me inside my stocking, hanging out on the Christmas tree.

Be sure to check out my web site for more Christmas photos of me!

Christmas Travels

Mommie and Daddy and I were planning to travel to see Mommie's Mom (my Grandma) this weekend for Christmas.  But Grandma isn't feeling well this week, so we decided to go in a couple of weeks instead.

I sure hope she feels better soon.  It's no fun to be sick at Christmas.  You can't go to parties, and eat lots of treats when you don't feel well.

We are saving her presents and will take them to her after Christmas.  It might be fun to get presents AFTER Christmas when no one else is getting anything, huh?

Christmas Shopping

Hi Everyone.  Well, Thanksgiving was great!  The best one ever!  I have so very many things to be thankful for, and I hope you do too.

Now it's time to get ready for Christmas.  I have been making a list of all the people I want to remember this Christmas.  I am putting on my thinking cap to try to come up with fun and creative ideas for gifts.

Maybe I'll make gifts myself since I don't have any money.  That way it would be a real "gift from Alvie".  I'll bet everyone would like that!

My Friend Boo Bear

I love the fall!  That's when I get to see my friend Boo Bear!  He wears a neat orange sweater with fall leaves on it.  It looks so cozy and warm!

Boo Bear is bigger than me, but he is always kind and friendly.  He is always in a good mood and doesn't
even complain that he doesn't get to stay out all year.  He is just happy to be able to visit during the fall.

If you visit my web site at http://www.alvietheburro.com/, you can see a larger photo of Boo Bear and me.  There are lots of other fun photos there too.

Mommie's Hurt Finger

On Saturday Mommie was slicing some onions to cook dinner for Daddy and me.  The knife slipped and she cut her finger really bad and had to go to the Emergency Room at the Hospital.  It was scary, but they were really nice to her and took good care of her.  She got 7 stitches in her thumb.  OUCH!!!

It looks bad and she says it hurts sometimes.

Mommie knows how to use a knife safely but she still had an accident and got hurt.  That is why little children should not play with knives.  It is so easy to slip and cut yourself, and that would make me very unhappy.  I want all my friends to be safe!

New Alvie Story

Have you read the new Alvie the Little Brown Burro story?  It's all about how i outwitted some squirrels who were trying to bully me.

You can read it at http://www.alvietheburro.com/

Please stop by my web site to read my story and look at my new photos.  I look so cute!

Working Out

My Mommie works out hard everyday!  She does all these exercise videos.  She jumps, runs, lunges and squats.  It makes me tired just watching her.  Personally, I don't like working out.  I'd rather eat oats and sleep!

I get lots of exercise just running around the house on my little, short legs.  I have to take lots of steps to keep up with Mommie and Daddy.  They are BIG and I am just a little brown burro.

The good thing is that all that running around keeps me slim and trim and I can eat all the oats I want.

Fall is Here at My House!

At my house we always decorate for fall.  My Mommie puts brightly colored leaves, pumpkins and nuts on the mantle and hearth.  Here is a photo of me among all the leaves and flowers on the mantle,

My Daddy puts pumpkins and mums on the front porch.

It looks so nice!  It makes me happy just to look at it.

It won't be long until Halloween is here.  I will dress up as a pirate this year.  Read my story at http://www.alveitheburro.com/ to find out why.

Halloween is Coming Soon!

Today it really feels like fall.  The air is crispy cool and it feels so nice.  It's a relief after the hot days of summer.

Where I live, in Tennessee, the leaves on the trees turn beautiful colors in the fall.  They are just now starting to change colors.  I think it is so exciting to go outside everyday and see how many more leaves are red, orange, and yellow!

Halloween is later this month...I am going to dress up like a pirate for Halloween. Here is a photo of me in my pirate costume.

Weekend Trip

My Mommie's birthday was this weekend and we took a nice trip to the mountains to celebrate.  The air was clean and crisp and the leaves had just a tinge of color.  It was so nice!

When you look across the tops of the mountains you can see for miles and miles!  Now I know why the song says "purple mountain majesties".

Message From Alvie, Himself

Hi There!  It's me, Alvie!  My Mommie has been posting blogs lately, but sometimes I do it myself.

It has been raining all weekend and I had to stay indoors.  Of course, I usually stay indoors anyway unless my Mommie and Daddy take me somewhere.  Anyway, we had a good time watching TV - mostly college football on Saturday, cooking yummy dinners, and playing with the computer.

Sometimes it can be boring staying inside all day, but we always find fun things to do at my house.  Jut use your imagination and make up a game if you can't find anything else to do.  Well, gotta go now - Mommie wants to exercise.

I hope you will come back to my blog often!

Why Reading is Important

Reading unlocks the keys to all other learning, and learning to read begins at home.

When you share a book with a child, you open worlds, help them in their journey toward lifelong success, and create great memories.  I know this from personal experience.  Some of my fondest memories are of sitting quietly with my Mom or Dad and listening to them read to me.

That sparked a love of reading that continues to this day.

Parenting Resources

I've added some links to the Alvie The Little Brown Burro website that are great parenting resources!  There are articles on how to teach your children to read and other important tips for parents.

Check them out at http://www.alvietheburro.com/

Reading to Children

Reading to your children is very important.  It not only gives you close, quality time with them, but it helps them to learn to love reading as well.

Read some of the stories about Alvie to your children and discuss what Alvie learned with them.
